El espejo

Frente al espejo,

veo el tiempo perdido,

las canas que adornan mi cabello,

y el reflejo me dice:

¿Dónde fuiste, amigo?

Me entregué a las noches,

a los amigos y los vicios,

dejé pasar los días,

sin valorar lo que tenía.

Las mujeres fueron un sueño,

una fantasía pasajera,

y ahora, en mi soledad,

me doy cuenta de mi quimera.

No fui pareja, ni profesional,

ni hombre de verdad,

me perdí en la ilusión,

dejando atrás la realidad.

La familia, ese tesoro,

que nunca supe apreciar,

ahora, en mi madurez,

me doy cuenta de su valor.

El tiempo, ese juez implacable,

me muestra su verdad,

todo tiene su momento,

y yo lo dejé pasar.

Ahora, con la edad encima,

miro atrás con pesar,

pero también con dignidad,

porque aún puedo cambiar.

También puedes reír o llorar,

pero puedes empezar de una vez,

todavía hay tiempo,

para vivir y amar otra vez.

The Mirror

Translated into English

In front of the mirror,
I see the time I’ve lost,
the silver now crowning my hair,
and the reflection says to me:

“Where did you go, my friend?”
I gave myself to the nights,
to friendships and vices,
let the days drift by
without valuing what I had.
Women were a dream,
a fleeting fantasy,
and now, in my solitude,
I see the truth of my delusion.

I was neither partner, nor professional,
nor truly a man—
I got lost in illusion,
leaving reality behind.
Family, that treasure
I never knew how to cherish,
now, in my maturity,
I finally see its worth.

Time, that relentless judge,
shows me its truth:
everything has its moment,
and I let mine slip away.
Now, with age upon me,
I look back with regret—
but also with dignity,
because I know I still can change.

You can laugh or cry,
but you can also begin again.
There is still time
to live,
and to love
once more.
