POETIC DELIGHTS BY RABIA SABEEN-PAKISTAN
1: Rabi's Layers of Mirrors
Glittering
Rabi out of stones
Sneaky
pebbles round her own
Whose hands
have felt the sting of sorrow's bite,
And eyes now
frozen by dreams that fade from sight.
The sky
awaits her, cradling every hue,
But she
sways madly, serpents coiling anew.
Whose heart
burns like the sun's forlorn red ray,
And in a
crowd, like moonlight, spreads dew in play.
A world
yearning to embrace, yet it sits alone,
In false
hopes of fragrance from paper flowers grown.
With thorns
piercing deep, it bleeds in despair,
Chasing
illusions, unaware of the snare.
It's not
that she's blind to emotions' embrace,
But from the
ashes of cruelty, she finds her own place.
Reforming
her essence, she rises anew,
From depths
of despair, her strength breaks through.
Now enough,
no more disdain,
No more
compliance, no more pain.
No more
revisions, nor vows to send,
For Rabi's
layers of mirrors now blend.
2: Inside of Her
From the
open airy window
A rose petal
comes inside the room
Fragmented
and innocent
joyce and
passionate
Filled with
compassions wholeheartedly,
Swaying and
frolicking around the home
Doesn't know
a monster is stalking her
Barefooted,
playing monopoly,
A monster,
with a tongue of a snake
And the eyes
of a wolf
shatters all
dreams, crushes all hopes,
striking
from within the heart, he shakes her delicacy
And now
This rose
petal doesn't remain a rose petal; she is crumbled before adorence,
but even in demolished soul, she fragrances
the universal courtyards

Beautiful insight into Rabia Sabeen’s craft!
Thank you for sharing “Poetic Delights”—Rabia Sabeen’s voice shines through each line with graceful sincerity and cultural resonance. Her poems evoke vivid scenes of Pakistani life, blending personal experience with a profound sense of place. The bilingual (Urdu and English) layers make her work accessible yet deeply rooted in tradition—like the best of modern Urdu poetry, it merges emotion with artful structure while preserving original rhythms.
What stands out for me is her ability to tackle universal themes—identity, belonging, resilience—through the local and particular. The imagery reminds me of progressive poets like Kishwar Naheed or Fehmida Riyaz, who refused to shy away from the social realities of Pakistan while also weaving lyricism into their social critique .
I’d love to know:
• Is there a particular poem by her that has stayed with you?
• How do you feel her poetic voice contributes to contemporary Pakistani literature’s evolving narrative?
Looking forward to exploring more of her poems—and thank you again for bringing her work to wider attention.
