POETIC DELIGHTS BY BRENDA MOHAMMED-TRINIDAD & TOBAGO
1. DOUBTS
Doubt kills more dreams than fear of failure.
If doubt creeps in, remember the famous inventors.
If they’d given in to doubts and not pursued their dreams.
They could not have impacted the world with their discoveries.
Push doubts aside and take on a do-it attitude.
Don’t let doubts knock you off course; widen your latitude.
Be courageous, and never give up on your dreams and aspirations.
You might be next to have ideas for problem solutions.
If you’re willing to pursue them, your dreams can come true.
Be confident, don’t think others are better than you.
The secret to getting ahead is to take early action.
Positivity always wins, don’t give in to doubt and inaction.
2.
Flowers not only beautify the world
They have a calming effect on the soul.
When you walk in a garden amongst flowers,
You feel like staying there for many hours.
Flowers bring enchantment to your life.
They fill you with love and prevent strife.
People send flowers to the ones they love,
Because flowers convey messages of love.
Flowers are always in great demand.
People always stop at a flower stand,
To buy flowers for birthdays and occasions grand.
Lovers can be seen walking with flowers in hand.
Flowers are not man-made but part of nature.
In national parks and botanical gardens, they feature.
They are smiles from the Creator to show his love.
Everyone loves flowers; they’re blessings from above.
3. THE GORGEOUS BUTTERFLY
I watched the gorgeous butterfly flit from flower to flower
With its unusual mix of colours, for a while it did me overpower.
It flew in my direction and landed on me.
Sat on my dress for a while, then flew away quickly
It seemed unperturbed by chirping birds in the tree.
That beautiful, innocent, and delicate being amazed me.
It brought back many of my childhood memories.
When my siblings and I would play outdoors fearlessly.
The doors and windows of our parents’ house remained open wide.
Neighbours walked in to chat with my mom from the door at the side.
We wandered around in the hills and valleys during the holidays.
There were no reports of murders, burglaries, or foul play.
People were respectful and hospitable towards one another.
Offering a helping hand was never a bother.
They willingly shared fruits and vegetables from their orchards.
There were no fences around the houses where we ventured.
Higher education and the standard of living improved for all.
People’s financial situations improved, but neighbourly attitudes did fall.
They have bigger houses in gated communities.
To carry on a conversation, they are too busy.
